Overall the condition of the box is good. There is some minor wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There is some minor warping and splitting consistent with age and material including an area in the centre of the chessboard where sections of wood have been inserted to fill the split. There are taces of fabric lining on the inside. The hinges are replaced and the lock is lacking its key. There are metal rings to either side of the box.
