Catalogue Note

This painting appears to be by the same hand as another Temptation of Saint Anthony, catalogued by Max Friedländer as the work of Herri Met de Bles (Paris, Custodia Foundation; see M.J. Friedländer, Early Netherlandish Painting, vol. XIII, Leiden 1975, p. 80, no. 76, reproduced plate 39). We are grateful to Dr. Walter S. Gibson who, on the basis of photographs, supports this idea.
