Condition
The painting is less dark with brighter colours than the catalogue illustration suggests. To the naked eye indeed the painting appears clean and in fair condition. Both canvases have good effective relinings – some abrasion can be seen in the sky. Inspection under UV light reveals quite expensive but localised painterly retouching in the outlines of the clouds in the sky and buildings to add definition.
Some structural retouchings are also present in some small restored tears. For example, lower left and lower centre.
Offered in carved and guilt wood frames in good condition.
