Tha canvas has a fairly old lining which is stable. The paint surface is a little pressed in places and very dirty. There is a paint loss (1 x 1 cm) in the centre of the palazzo and a larger restored damage in the lower left hand corner. There is some old restoration throughout: for example the walls of the palazzo on the extreme right are mostly overpainted as are, to a lesser extent, some of the walls on the palazzi immediately to the left and right of Palazzo Balbi. Some of the staffage has also been stregnthened. The painting would benefit from a full cleaning.
