Condition
The canvases have old linings which are stable. There is a thin line of losses along each upper and lower margin (visible in the catalogue illustration). To the canvas illustrated above there is a series of losses along the extreme right vertical margin corresponding to the tacks behind. To the illustrated below there are two holes towards the upper right. Both paint surfaces are generally quite well preserved although, beneath thick layers of discoloured varnish, some at times fairly extensive old restoration is discernible, especially under ultra violet light.
