STRUCTURE
The canvas is unlined. There are two holes to the canvas; one U shaped tear approximately 3 inches long horizontally ans 2 1/2 inches long vertically, in the lower left; the other an inverted T shaped tear in the upper centre of the canvas, approximately 1 inch long vertically and 1 1/2 inches horizontally.
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be in good condition. There is an old and discoloured varnish overall but there do not appear to be any signs of paint loss or damage to the pigment.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals a very small number of very minor scattered old strengthenings, otherwise there does not appear to be any retouching to the canvas.
FRAME
Held in a gilded wood and plaster frame.
