STRUCTURE The canvas is unlined. PAINT SURFACE The painting appears to be in very good condition, and has been sensitively cleaned. ULTRAVIOLET Examination under ultraviolet light reveals scattered minor strengthening, predominantly in the feather's of the sitter's hat and in his costume, as well one area of minor retouching to the background in the lower left. FRAME Held in a carved and jessoed frame.
