Condition

STRUCTURE Both canvases have been lined. PAINT SURFACE Both paintings appear to be in good condition, with no visible retouching or paint loss. There is a slightly discoloured varnish overall in both paintings. ULTRAVIOLET Examination under ultraviolet light shows scattered minor retouching overall in both paintings. In 'Old Eclipse' this is particularly prevalent in the upper left, whilst in 'Spilette and a Foal' there is retouching in the upper right, and to craquelure along the upper edge. FRAME Both held in gilded wooden frames.
