Description
- Bon de Boullogne
- Susannah and the Elders; An allegory of war and peace
- a pair, both oil on canvas
Condition
The canvases have some fairly old relinings which are secure.
War and Peace
The background has some fairly extensive old restoration throughout, most of which has now discoloured. The paint has worn a little thin in some areas and been subsequently strengthened; however some of the strengthening has itself become worn, for example in the right section of the blue drapery around Peace. The figures have survived in mostly original condition.
Susanna and the Elders
Throughout the background are some old restorations, especially in the darker areas over areas of thinness. There are some sporadic small retouchings to the Elders and to the white drape covering Susanna. Each sold with decorative parcel gilt frames in good condition.
