Condition
The recent relining has somewhat flattened the paint surface. The paint surface is secure with some craquelure, and under a discoloured varnish. No major damages can be made out to the naked eye. Small paint losses can be made out, for example to the left of the flaming heart. UV light reveals scattered strengthenings to the edges; these are a little more concentrated in the right sleeve. Offered in a later wood and plaster frame with some losses to the corners.

Catalogue Note
The composition repeats Conca's original in the church of San Bartolomeo, Sora (see Sebastiano Conca, exh. cat., Gaeta 1981, p. 204, cat. no. 59, reproduced p. 205). We are grateful to Professor Giancarlo Sestieri for suggesting that the present work might have been carried out by one of Conca's Sicilian followers.
