Description

  • Abraham Brueghel
  • Still life with fruit piled high and a sculpted urn filled with flowers
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The catalogue illustration is representative. The painting is made up of two separate canvases which have been joined at the center. The canvases were subsequently relined. Both halves of the painting are dirty and under discoloured varnishes. Retouchings have naturally been applied along the seam in the centre, as well as some further scattered retouchings in the background and along some old frame abrasion. In the right half some old restoration and subsequent repaint has been applied in the centre, presumably over damage. Overall the painting would benefit from a clean to enhance the overall tonality. Offered in a wood and plaster frame with scattered losses.

Catalogue Note

This painting incorporates two works, one by a follower of Abraham Brueghel and the other probably painted in France in the 18th century, which have been combined to form an overdoor.
