Description

  • An allegory with a Knight in Armour
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The canvas has been relined. There is an old horizontal canvas join running across the canvas approx 10 cm down from the upper edge, along which the paint has started to blister. Further lifting is evident along the lower margin but the paint surface is otherwise secure under a very dirty varnish. Inspection under UV light reveals some old scattered retouching work most noticeably in the foreground and figure of the knight. Offered in a gilt and black painted wooden frame in good condition.
