Follower of Pietro Buonaccorsi, called Perino del Vaga

The support consists of two vertical panels with two old horizontal batons inlaid on the reverse. There is what appears to be a subsequent extention along the upper margin about two inches deep. The paint surface is rather damaged along the vertical panel join as it is where the extention joins the original panel. The paint surface, which is generally well preserved throughout, is however blemished with numerous old restorations and retouchings, most of which have now discoloured. There is a large area of restoration to Christ's underarm, to many of the darker areas of drapery and to the dark background. Smaller more minor retouchings are scattered throughout the flesh tones. Sold with a black cassetta frame.
