Description

  • Bartholomeus Assteyn
  • A still life with grapes, peaches and other fruit in a porcelain dish on a partially-draped table
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is secure and clean if a little flattened in the darks of the background and foregound, although the still life details are generally well preserved. Scattered old retouching work is discernable in these areas and inspection under UV light reveals that this to be the painting out of two leaves and some vine upper right and one leaf upper left, presumably to hide the fact that the canvas has been cut out of a larger composition. UV light also highlights some scattered retouchings in the foregrounad and some minor work in the still life elements. Offered in a carved wooden frame in good condition.
