Description
- Sir Peter Paul Rubens
- portrait of a bearded man, head and shoulders, looking over his left shoulder
- oil on panel
Condition
The support consists of three vertical panels which are uncradled and unbevelled but affected by a slight horizontal bow, most affected at the right. There is some severe tenting towards the right and subsequent paint loss which requires immediate attention. There is a partly restored vertical split in the lower centre around which the paint surface has been restored. There is another large area of restoration to the background directly above the man's right shoulder. The head itself is very well preserved and has seen very little interference.
