Description
- Nicolaes Eliasz. Pickenoy
- Portrait of a lady, bust length, with a lace ruff, cap and cuffs
- oil on panel
Condition
The support consists of three vertical panels joined to the reverse and is bevelled on all four edges. The painting is a little more yellow in tone than it appears in the catalogue illustration, on account of an old, discoloured varnish. The is some very minor lifting in the darks of the background and two tiny areas upper centre where it has flaked off, as visible in the catalogue illustration. Scattered old discoloured retouchings are discernable to the naked eye in the background along the margin where there have been some old losses due to frame abrasion, and in the right hand vertical join.
These are confirmed under UV light which is hampered by the old varnish.
Offered in a gilt wood and plaster frame in good condition, if a little rubbed.
