Description
- Isaac Willaerts
- A coastal landscape with two Dutch merchant ships and other barges in choppy waters off the coast, fishermen unloading their catch in the foreground, a hill top town beyond
- signed lower right: I.willarts.
- oil on panel
Condition
The painting is more blue and deeper in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The panel consists of 2 horizontal planks and is bevelled along the edges. The panel has a tiny dent along the right edge, but otherwise, is in good condition and no damages are apparent.
The paint layer is well preserved. Some minor scattered retouchings in the sky and some minimal strengthenings in the landscape and figures can be made out with the naked eye. The paint surface is under a fairly clear layer of varnish. Inspection under UV reveals a few tiny scattered recent retouchings, e.g. along the join, but overall, this painting is in good condition.
Offered in a Dutch dark ebonised wood frame in good condition.
