Condition

The actual painting is warmer and less green in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel consists of 2 horizontal planks and is flat and stable. No major damages are visible to the naked eye and the impasto in the highlights is nicely preserved. The paint layer is secure, if a little abraded in some of the darker hues. Some small retouchings are visible in the sky, as well as some minor ones in the group of figures on the left. The paint surface is under a dirty varnish layer. Inspection under UV light reveals further scattered retouchings and strengthenings, more frequent in the sky. Also, a horizontal repaired crack of approx. 15 cm. is revealed running above the join from the right edge as well as three small horizontal splits in the upper left corner. Offered in a plain wood frame in good condition.
