Description

  • three peasants drinking

Condition

The actual painting is less red and softer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The single panel is in good condition, with no damages apparent. There's minor frame abrasion along the left and right edges. The paint surface is generally sound and under a very dirty and discoloured varnish. Tiny vertical scattered retouchings following the wood grain can be made out with the naked eye in the background. Inspection under UV light is partially impeded by the varnish layer, but does reveal minor retouchings along the right edge, a tiny spot of retouching in the woman's forehead and some tiny ones in the face of the background figure. Overall, the figures appear nicely preserved. Offered in a decorative gilt plaster and wood frame with a glass plate in good condition.
