Description

  • Jan Baptist Bosschaert
  • Still life of Morning Glory, roses, a parrot tulip, chrysanthemums and other flowers in stone vase, on a stone ledge
  • signed lower right: Bosschaert

  • oil on canvas

Provenance

In the family of the present owner since the beginning of the 20th Century.

Condition

The paint surface is under a slightly dirty layer of varnish. Stretcher marks are visible along the upper edge. The paint surface is secure, if a bit abraded in the background, but the impasto of the flowers is very nicely preserved. Areas of retouching are visible in the ledge in the lower foreground, in the stone vase and in the background, and there's a restored vertical surface scratch in the upper right corner. Inspection under UV light reveals tiny scattered retouchings throughout in the background and lower foreground, and minor ones in and around the flowers, but the flowers are generally intact. Offered in a decorative gilt plaster and wood frame in good condition.
