The actual painting is softer and less red in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has an old effective relining, and retains much of its bounce. Stretcher marks are slightly visible to the front. The paint surface is under a very dirty and dry layer of varnish. There's a fine craquelure throughout which is slightly beginning to lift in some places. The paint layer is a bit thin in the hair and background, but otherwise, is well preserved. A few small discoloured retouchings can be observed in the figure's hand and chin. Inspection under UV light reveals a few additional scattered small ones in the background and some minimal strengthening in the parrot. Offered in a decorative gilt plaster and wood frame with a few losses.
