Description

  • A kitchen still life with poultry, songbirds in a copper bucket, a flute, a pewter jug, and fruit on pewter plates, all arranged on a partly draped table, together with a monkey and a man standing behind the table
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The actual painting is a little more subdued in tone than the actual painting suggests. The canvas has a recent relining. The paint surface is under a slightly discoloured varnish, and has become a little flattened. No damages are apparent. The paint layer is quite thin in the darker areas and subsequent areas of retouching are visible to the naked eye. Additional strengthening of the outlines, and small scattered retouchings are visible throughout, e.g. in the man's face, in the jug, in the draped cloth, in some of the birds. Under UV light the paint surface more extensive retouchings are revealed, e.g. in the background, and some in the fowl as well. Offered in a plain wood frame with gilt fillets with a few paint losses.
