Condition

The actual painting is a lot less red and greener in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The single panel is flat and stable and bevelled to the reverse. There's thin vertical repaired split of approx. 10 cm. in the lower right corner. The paint surface is under a very dirty varnish. There's a retouched paint loss in the background centre right. The paint surface is secure if a bit abraded in the brown tones and subsequent minor retouchings are visible to the naked eye, e.g. in the neck, chest and hair of Christ. Inspection under UV light reveals more extensive retouchings, e.g. in the background, in the cheeks, in the hands and cloak. An additional repaired vertical split running from the upper edge through the right half is revealed. Offered in a plain gilt wood frame with a few losses.
