The painting is warmer in tone and less red than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas is unlined and is offered in a carved and gilt wood frame in fair condition. Two patches to the reverse correspond to a small hole and tear in the turban and upper right, as visible in the catalogue. The paint surface is secure, dirty and under a yellowed varnish. However, the impasto is well preserved and the painting is in good condition, as confirmed by UV light, under which only minor retouchings flouresce. Some surface scuffs and very minor paint losses are present.
