Catalogue Note

Although he made numerous topographical drawings, many of which were engraved, Rademaker's decorative gouaches usually depict imaginary views or capricci.  Topographically accurate views such as this are rare in this medium.  Other, monochrome drawings of Nijmegen are, however, known,1 and there are four views of the city in the compendium of 300 topographical prints after drawings by Rademaker, published in 1725 under the title Nederlantse Outheeden en Gesigten.

1.  Two were sold, Amsterdam, Christie's, 22 November 1982, lot 181, and Utrecht, van Huffel, 20/21 May 1952, lot 426.
