Condition

Unframed. The paper is laid down and made up slightly at the left edge. There are some slight vertical creases across the sheet. The left had edge is slightly discoloured and there is a short line of faint light brown spots near the upper left corner. Otherwise the drawing is in good condition and the chalk is still strong.

Catalogue Note

Amalteo was the pupil and son-in-law of Pordenone.  The rearing horses are reminiscent of those in the fresco in Vittorio Veneto (formerly Ceneda) representing The Justice of Trajan, on which Amalteo collaborated with Pordenone circa 1534-1536.1
