Description

  • An extensive wooded landscape in the roman campagna, with figures conversing in the foreground, a lake beyond;A wooded landscape in the roman campagna, with horses and figures in the foreground
  • a pair, both oil on canvas

Condition

Both canvases are unlined. Both the paint surfaces are in good condition, and although both are perhaps a little thin in the dark areas they both have remaining impasto in the lighter pigments. In the former there is an old damage in the centre right of the sky as visible in the catalogue illustration and the in the latter there is an area where in the past the paint has lifted in the lower right just above the horizon. Some minor old retouching are visible in the sky of both works and these are confirmed under UV light which reveals some other minor scattered work in the landscapes. Offered in matching gilt wood frames in good condition.
