Condition
The carcass is basically fine. The painted decoration is generally secure if a little thin in areas and with some evident old retouching work.
There are old marks, chips and scratches and cracks and splits commensurate with age and normal usage as visible in the catalogue photograph. Some old minor restorations and very minor splicing to the corners of the lid. The inside has been stained and the base boards look later. There is evidence that there was a candlebox inside previously and previous hinges on the inside of the lid. The internal lockplate is now missing and there is evidence of a previous iron hasp through the shield on the front. In otherwise good conserved condition.
