Catalogue Note

This landscape, clearly drawn from life, is a particularly freely executed and atmospheric example of Klotz's accomplished draughtsmanship.  A very similarly executed and inscribed view of nearby Lichtenberg, also dated 1670, was sold, in London, Sotheby's, 15 March 1966, lot 89.
