Condition
STRUCTURE
The canvas has been lined.
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be in generally good condition. There is some pronounced craquelure around the sitter's head and there is an old, dirty and discoloured varnish overall. However there is no apparent damage or loss of paint.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light confirms the opacity of the varnish and reveals one or two very minor scattered retouchings, but otherwise appears to be in largely original condition.
FRAME
Held in a gilded plaster and wood frame.
