Description
- James Ross
- Stag Hunting in an extensive landscape
- oil on canvas
Condition
STRUCTURE
The canvas has been relined.
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be in good condition. There is a little surface dirt, but it would respond well to cleaning. There is a very fine craquelure overall, and evidence of very minor paint loss in the upper left along a vertical line of about 5 in. in length.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light confirms the opacity of an old discolured varnish and reveals that the paint loss in the upper left, is caused by old retouching to a previous tear. There are scattered minor retouchings overall.
FRAME
Held in a black painted wood frame.
