Catalogue Note

The match between Sir Joshua, owned and bred by the Hon. R. Neville, and Fihlo da Puta, the property of Sir William Maxwell, was one of the great races of the early nineteenth century. Both colts were celebrated racehorses of their generation, and the match, which was won by Sir Joshua, was run at Newmarket in 1816 for 1000 guineas a side.
