Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been relined. PAINT SURFACE The painting appears to be in very good condition. There is a fine craquelure throughout but no apparent paint loss or damage. ULTRAVIOLET Examination under ultraviolet light reveals the scattered remains of an old discoloured varnish. There are a few minor retouchings in the background and evidence of infilling to the craquelure on the sitter's forehead and costume. FRAME Held in carved and gilded wood frame.
