Description
- a trompe l'oeil still life, with a mezzotint of Democritus affixed to a partition with sealing wax, a letter tucked behind
- oil on canvas, unlined
Condition
The canvas has an old but good and effective relining. The paint surface is stable and under a yellowed varnish. Minor sacctered retouhcings are present as well as a 20 cm restored tear through Democritus. However, cosmetically this has been well restored. Offered in a carved woden frame in good condition.
