- a set of three, all oil on canvas

Anonymous sale, London, Sotheby's, 12 February 2008, lot 173.
Catalogue Note
These works appear to date from the 19th century and the central scenes are copies after Watteau's originals. The painting depicting Pierrot is very close in composition to the original listed as decoration for a paravent (see G. Macchia, L'opera completa di Watteau, Milan 1968, p. 97, cat. no. 49 D). The two allegories of spring and summer are copies after decoration for the Hôtel de Nointel, Paris (see op. cit. p. 94, cat. nos. 33 A and 33 B).
