Catalogue Note

The bozzetto relates to a finished work exhibited in York in 1994 which in the past has been attributed to Carlo Maratti and Andrea Casali (see Literature). The present attribution is due to Alastair Laing who compares the work to Galeotti's Rebecca and Eliezer from the Iliffe collection, Basildon Park (see P. Torriti, L'attività di Sebastiano Galeotti in Liguria, Genoa 1956, p. 16, reproduced plate 6).
