The paintings are redder than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvases have old, loose re-linings, with stretcher marks visible. The paint surface is secure with fine craquelure and under yellowed varnishes. There are minor scuffs and paint losses. Inspection under UV light of the Study of an Old Man Looking Right, reveals both older and more recent localised re-touchings, including in the areas of paint loss. Study of a Bearded Old Man Looking Left, under UV light, appears to be in better condition with only older scattered re-touchings under the varnish. Offered in wooden frames in good condition.
