  • oil on panel, the reverse branded with the coat-of-arms of the city of Antwerp and the panel maker's mark of François de Bont (active 1637-1643)

Provenance

Bought by the grandfather of the present owner in the 1930s.

Condition

The stable, flat panel support consists of three horizontal panels joined to the reverse. The paint surface is in good condition with thick chunks of impasto under a yellowed varnish. On the left the paint has started to lift slightly and upper left it has started to flake off, as can be seen in the catalogue illustration. Inspection under UV light reveals some minor scattered retouchings. Offered in a gilt wood and plaster frame in good condition.
