Description

  • Jan Breughel the Younger
  • earthly paradise
  • oil on copper

Provenance

Acquired by the late father of the present owner over thirty years ago;
Thence by descent.

Condition

The tone of the original is slightly more yellow than it appears in the catalogue illustration. The support consists of a single, stable, flat, copper panel and the painting overall appears to be in good condition. The paint surface is secure preserving much of its original impasto under a dirty varnish. This old varnish precludes thorough inspection under UV light although some very minor scattered retouchings lower left can be discerned. Offered in later carved wood and black paint northern style frame in good condition.
