Aux proportions remarquables de cette échelle s'ajoute la beauté de la forme parfaitement architecturée, rythmée par les sept échelons massifs taillés en encoches dans l'épaisseur du bois dur. Utilisée par les Dogon à l'intérieur des maisons ou pour atteindre les autels parfois nichés dans la façade de la résidence du chef de lignage (cf. Ezra, 1988 : 20) - elle offre une très belle patine d'usage, brun rouge, brillante sur les parties sollicitées.
