Condition

Very good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture: some losses to the blackened patina on the fore edge of the shield and some losses to the attached fibres, as visible in the catalogue illustration. Trace of an old hand-written paper label to the reverse.

Catalogue Note

L'étroit bouclier de section triangulaire - utilisé lors de combats au sabre ou de danses guerrières (Kaudern, 1917-20, fig. 113) - est superbement orné, sur sa face externe, d'une alternance de registres rigoureusement agencés, faits d'incrustations de plaques d'os triangulaires, de rangées de coquillages nassa et de crin, sur fond de patine noire. Il porte, au dos, une ancienne étiquette manuscrite.
