Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Old and well patinated loss to the tips of the feet. Light brown shiny patina.

Catalogue Note

Les gestes des statuettes Bembé expriment chacun un concept inhérent à la pensée Kongo. Selon Lehuard (1989 : 115), l'attitude des deux mains posées sur le ventre signifie l'adresse d'une prière secrète, une invocation.

Cette statuette se distingue par la prégnance du visage aux traits naturalistes finement modelés, accentuée par les yeux sertis d'un éclat de faïence, et par la très belle patine nuancée, brun rouge, brillante. Les trous de suspension la situent dans le corpus très restreint de statuettes féminines Bembé destinées à être "portées en collier par certains dignitaires" (Felix, 1995 : 196).
