Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the cultue: few holes to back of the proper left hand; tips of the two feet are missing, as visible in the catalogue illustration. Thick light brown patina.

La statuaire des groupes culturels répartis en pays Lobi s'articule en plusieurs grandes tendances stylistiques parmi lesquelles s'impose, issu de la région de Mbala, un style archétypal Lobi superbement illustré ici. La figure campée dans un aplomb remarquable, la plénitude des formes et la fermeté des galbes, les grands yeux saillants et la bouche fermée aux lèvres tendues, permettent de la rattacher au style identifié par Daniela Bognolo (2007 : 63 et 130) de « Tinkhiero », fondé par le sculpteur Lobi Karinthé Kambiré (ca. 1850-1910). 

La grande statuaire Lobi – rare au regard du très large corpus des figurines liées à la divination – est « attachée aux lignages, aux rites d'initiation et à la vie sociale », et personnifie la puissance des ancêtres fondateurs de villages (Gottschalk, 1999 : 124 et 116).  Cette majestueuse statue féminine portant des labrets faisait vraisemblablement partie d'un couple de thilkotina, supports cultuels du lignange. cf. Bognolo (2007 : pl. 1) pour une statue stylistiquement apparentée.
