Catalogue Note
Edmond Verhulpen fut l'auteur, en 1937, du premier ouvrage consacré au peuple Luba: Baluba et Balubaises. Acquises sur le terrain, quelques œuvres de sa collection sont illustrées dans Olbrechts, Plastiek van Kongo (1946).
Très belle opposition entre la rondeur - rare - de la forme, accentuée par le dessin circulaire des yeux, et les traits au dessin incisif, très finement modelés. L'intensité de l'expression est offerte par la profondeur des yeux percés et par les encoches irrégulières lacérant les lèvres (signifiant les dents). Elle a conservé sa longue barbe en fibres végétales luzelu.
