Condition
Very good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Hairline cracks; fine patina, encrusted in places and glossy and worn through use where the spindle was formerly.

Catalogue Note
Les étriers de poulies représentant un personnage en buste sont peu communs. Selon les caractéristiques de la très rare statuaire Bété, la tête - proportionnellement petite - est dominée par l'ample front bombé, les traits concentrés très finement modelés, et le buste étiré envahi de scarifications superbement ordonnancée. Patine brune, profonde, légèrement grumeleuse. cf. Goldet (Ricqlès, Paris, 1er juillet 2001 : 197, n° 262) pour un étrier très proche, probablement de la même main, dans la collection Hubert Goldet.
