Condition

Very good condition overall; fine patina, encrusted in places. Two of the four heads retain their haliotis shell eyes.

Catalogue Note

A l'élégance de la forme - rectangulaire (boîtes les plus anciennes) et très peu profonde - répond celle des motifs curvilignes profondément gravés, envahissant la surface. Elle se distingue par les poignées formées de tiki ajourés à deux têtes opposées. Belle patine d'usage brun rouge, profonde.
Les boîtes à trésors wakahuia servaient à conserver les ornements en néphrite et les plumes précieuses de l'oiseau huia ornant la tête - sacrée - des chefs Maori.
