Provenance

This cello has been in the possession of the same family since the first half of the 19th century.  In the early 20th century it belonged to Maestro Zanetti Carpene (b c1880; d c1960), a well-known Italian cellist who played in theatres in Venice and Treviso.

His son, Alberto Carpene Jr, was responsible for the development of the Charmat method of fermentation which is used in the production of Prosecco.
