Catalogue Note
George Benjamin CBE is one of the most notable contemporary British composers and conductors. "Benjamin's first acknowledged pieces...demonstrate remarkable assurance...in the handling of large orchestral sonorities..." (TNG). This piece was written for the first concert given by the ensemble Aquarius, who performed it at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on 18 October 1983. Benjamin had two works performed at this year's BBC Proms: "Duo" and "Three Inventions"
