  • Contemporary manuscript full score and orchestral parts for Der Freischütz

in 3 volumes, notated in dark brown ink on up to sixteen staves per page, with German words, comprising the overture and sixteen numbers, with cues for the spoken dialogue written ink on unstaved pages and margins, and 8 pages for the stage band notated at the end of the third volume written on three- and five-stave systems, the score marked up for performance in pencil , including some additional cues ("Ziemlich nach bey der Wolfsschluss"; "Das 3te Horn Extra"; "Nb Corni 3"), c.500 pages in all, oblong 4to (c.23 x 32cms), 10-, 12-, 13- and 16-stave papers, calligraphic title to first volume, contemporary boards, first leaves to each volume adhering to the flyleaves, somwhat obscuring the act titles, together with the contemporary orchestral parts for flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns in F and C, trumpets in C, timpani, and strings, some contemporary corrections inserted on slips of manuscript paper affixed with pins, 20 volumes, folio, 12-stave paper, paper-wrappers with contemporary manuscript blue labels to covers, some browning and damp-staining, 23 volumes in all, no dates, probably 1820s

Catalogue Note

Der Freischütz was premiered in 1821, but the first printed full score did not appear until 1849.
