Roller's printed sketches of the costumes for the premiere of Der Rosenkavalier, comprising one double-leaf title with list of the sketches and 50 loose chromo-lithographed plates, four folding, [54] pages in all, plus blanks, imperial folio (17.7 x 32cm), original folder with green stencilled decorations, rebacked and recornered, light browning, a few marks and a few tiny repairs to title, elsewhere light browning to edges and a few small marks, a few small stains to covers

Catalogue Note

A fine set of Roller's legendary sketch designs for the costumes of the premiere of Der Rosenkavalier, which took place in Dresden on 26 January 1911. All the plates were lithographed by Berger of Vienna and bear Roller's monogram.
